ABOUT MANZANILLO

Manzanillo has been described in Susan Dearing's guidebook, as a "tourist mecca" with a yearly average of 350 days of sun. The climate in Manzanillo is near perfect, with rainfall in the summer months only and an average temperature of 28C (82F). Add to this, year-round warm ocean water, pristine golden sand beaches, and an unspoiled real Mexican town and you get an incredible vacation experience.

Years ago, Manzanillo was best known to Mexican tourists and fishermen as the "Sailfish Capital of the World." Miramar Cruise Ship Tours offers a deluxe deep sea fishing trip, casting off from the world-renowned Las Hadas Golf Resort and Marina. The captain and crew have lived in Mexico for many years and love to fish, so they will work hard to help you catch "The Big One"--your own sailfish, marlin or dorado. Today it's appeal has broadened to international tourists and more recently North Americans and Canadians searching for an ideal destination to purchase recreation and investment property.

In addition to being a heavenly beach destination, Manzanillo offers some of the worlds best surfing, excellent sportfishing, fascinating eco-tourism, as well as scuba diving and snorkeling, great markets, festivals and a wonderful community full of friendly people. The location of Manzanillo makes it an ideal jumping-off point for ecological explorations of neighboring jungle and estuary sanctuaries, as well as indigenous mountain settlements. Miramar Cruise Ship Tours loves to show you all the natural wonders Colima has to offer.

Increasingly, it attracts those seeking both spiritual and physical renewal, with abundant massage and bodywork services, yoga classes, and exceptional and varied healthful dining options. What Manzanillo doesn’t offer is huge mega-resorts, a “Spring Break” party atmosphere, crowded beaches, and traffic jams.

Manzanillo lies on the Pacific coast of Mexico (Mexican Riviera), approximately 165 miles south of Puerto Vallarta. It was established in 1825 as a port, but was discovered as a tourist destination after Bolivian tin magnate, Atenor Pateño built Las Hadas (now a resort) for his jet-setting friends.

The beaches of Manzanillo Bay and Santiago Bay allow you to enjoy crystalline waters, pristine sand and a seemingly endless array of outdoor recreational activities. Playa Olas Altas, the main surfing beach is long with soft sand and a steep slope, making it a good spot to do aquatic sports.

Then Playa Miramar, as its name suggests, offers a beautiful view of the ocean and the surrounding mountains, as well as a vista of central Manzanillo. A new artisan's market offers a plethora of souvenirs, from hand crafted pottery, beach cover-ups, silver jewelry, purses, leather goods, sculptures from Ironwood, and much more. Miramar Cruise Ship Tours offers a special "Beach & Shopping" to to allow you to take advantage of this spectacular area.

La Boquita beach, with warm waters and mild surf offers boat rentals to tour the bay as well as boogey board rentals, banana boat rides, and shopping, with an array of beach vendors selling everything from T-shirts, to jewelry, to hand-made bowls. Each bay has 5 miles of beach, perfect for walking or jogging. A small horseshoe-shaped bay, Club de Yates (part of Playa Audiencia) has golden sand mixed with black sand (from volcanic rock) and its blue-green waters offer good swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. The waves are small, making it a good spot for children. There are a number of small restaurants on Manzanillo Bay, Miramar Beach and at La Boquita where you can enjoy the view and a lunch of fresh seafood.

Toward the end of the day, you can see fishermen bringing in their catch, and for your day-visit to Manzanillo, with Miramar Cruise Ship Tours, you'll have a chance to catch a whopper like the dorado ("mahi mahi") in the photo. Though this photo was taken at La Boquita, there are some big ones out there waiting for you!

There are countless things to do in Manzanillo, and the hardest thing you'll have to do is choose. One of the reasons Miramar Cruise Ship Tours offers so many different adventures is that we hope to cater to everyone, any age, any type of activity.
